Sailing School Course Descriptions

Basic Keel Boat Sailing (ASA101) - $395

A 2 day beginning sailing course, or refresher, where you learn boat terms, preparation, hoisting sails, preparing the boat to leave & return to the dock, basic points of sail, sail trim, maneuvers (tack, gibe, turning, braking), securing the boat or putting it  "to bed". 

We also cover basic safety requirements & procedures, rules of the road, and study of wind & weather. You will be sailing our 24 foot Rainbow in the protected waters of Boca Ciega Bay & intracoastal waterway of St Pete Beach.

    The Basic Keel Sailing course is approved by the National Association of Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and the U.S. Coast Guard as a recognized Safe Boating Course. As such, it meets all requirements for mandatory education and licensing for every state in the United States.

Basic Coastal Cruising (ASA103) - $535

After conquering the basics, you will advance to our 37 foot Gulfstar sloop "Ceilidh" (pronounced K-Lee) to begin the 3 day exploration of cruising boats and their systems.

We will cover diesel engine care and maintenance, AC/DC electrical systems, anchoring & fenders, while focusing on getting more sailing experience and practice with techniques (reefing, heaving to). We will also learn more about safety requirements and drills like man overboard, rules of the road, weather precautions, chart reading and navigation.

Bareboat Chartering (ASA104) - $575

In our 3 day advanced cruising course, you will plan and prepare for an overnight cruise, including provisioning, gear, storage, & navigation.

You will act as skipper & crew and spend the night at anchor in a choice destination in the Tampa Bay Area.

Also being offered, is a "Strictly Women" Class of the individual courses mentioned above, led and instructed by Captain Anne Wister.
